Straight answers about how the typing tutor works, how learner profiles are protected, and what the Family plan includes.
A typing tutor, first. The guided curriculum begins with posture and home position, introduces keys in small groups, and builds toward words, punctuation, references, editing, and full passages. What makes it different is the material: Scripture stays on screen throughout practice, and the Scripture that closes each lesson only asks for letters the learner has already learned. Typing a passage carefully, again and again, can help it stick, and finished verses can be replayed with words fading out as an optional memory challenge. That is Scripture practice, and we do not promise that every learner will memorize every verse.
The app keeps track of how quickly and accurately each learner types every key and common two-letter pair. Once all the lowercase letters have been taught, the keys and letter pairs a learner finds hardest can come back in short word reviews, spaced out over time. Those words come from your family’s Bible translation and use only letters the learner has already learned. The parent dashboard shows the same picture: accuracy, net WPM over time, and a keyboard map of the keys that need the most work. The main lessons still follow a set order that parents can adjust, and the personal review is added on top of them. It does not build a completely different course for each child.
Net words per minute: typing speed with mistakes taken off. Many programs show speed without counting mistakes, because that number is bigger. We think a typing report a parent might put in a homeschool portfolio should mean what it says, so every speed you see in the app is net WPM.
Parents choose one Bible translation for the whole household. The Berean Standard Bible (BSB) is the default, and the World English Bible (WEB), King James Version (KJV), American Standard Version (ASV), and Bible in Basic English (BBE) are also included in full. We use public-domain translations so complete Bibles can be stored on your device, with no limit on how many verses you use.
Mostly by never asking kids for personal details in the first place. There are no ads: family subscriptions are how we pay for the app. Learner profiles do not sign up, enter an email, or share personal details. A parent creates each profile with a display name or nickname, an avatar we provide, and a 4-digit PIN. Races and leaderboards stay inside your family unless your family joins a network, and we never collect a learner’s photo, birth date, location, or free-form writing. For children under 13, this supports the parental-consent rule in COPPA, the U.S. children’s privacy law: every detail in a learner’s profile is entered by a parent, in an account that parent owns and manages.
A network is a private group for a co-op, church, or circle of friends. Only the parent who runs the family account can create one, joining happens through an invite link, and the network creator must approve each family before it appears. There is no public directory and no way for strangers to find your learners. Approved families see a private leaderboard showing each learner’s display name and effort-based numbers (practice points earned this week and how much their net WPM has grown, so a 7-year-old can win the week fair and square against a 12-year-old). Nothing else about your family is shared. Learner profiles can only look at the board, and every decision about who your family connects with belongs to a parent.
Partly. Scripture Typer installs as an app on your computer or tablet, and after your first visit every supported Bible translation is stored on the device. If the connection drops in the middle of a lesson, your learner can finish the step they are on: that work is saved on the device and sent to your account when you reconnect. Opening the app, starting a lesson, and moving on to the next step need an internet connection. School accounts need to stay online the whole time.
The annual Family plan includes up to 12 learner profiles, the full guided curriculum, personal review of each learner’s hardest words once the lowercase letters are learned, printable progress reports, family races, and private typing networks. It is $129/yr for the whole household, billed once a year.
Yes. New families get 7 days free with every lesson open. You enter a card when you start, and it is charged $129 for the year when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. On the website, cancel with Manage subscription in Settings; in the Mac app, cancel in your App Store subscriptions at least 24 hours before the trial ends. There is one free trial per family. A family that has subscribed before is charged when they sign up again.

The parent dashboard tracks net words per minute over time, accuracy, weak-key patterns, streaks, and minutes practiced for each learner, and you can print a clean semester report summarizing it all — dated, per-learner documentation of keyboarding instruction for your portfolio or reviewer. State requirements vary, so check yours, but the report was designed for exactly this job.
The program is designed primarily for ages 7–12, with large friendly targets and focused lessons that introduce keyboard skills in a deliberate order. A short typing check looks at accuracy, net WPM, how quickly each key comes, and which groups of keys a learner already knows, then suggests a starting lesson that leans toward the easy side. Parents can review or change it with their PIN. Reduced motion, high contrast, adjustable text size, and sound toggles are available in settings. Older students and adults can use it too, and a family plan covers up to 12 learners.
It is a separate product from the same team. Some of you may remember when our app was called Scripture Typer — after growing into Bible Memory, we’re bringing the Scripture Typer name back for a new tool designed to help families learn typing through Scripture. Your Bible Memory subscription and Scripture Typer subscription are independent: neither one is included with the other, and each has its own account.
